What is therapy or counseling?

Therapy provides a confidential environment where clients are encouraged to speak freely, process their experiences, and learn practical strategies for daily life under the guidance and support of a therapist. Counseling involves a reflective and challenging process, prompting clients to examine and take ownership of their life stories. This journey offers a chance for personal growth, empathy, and empowerment, ultimately allowing clients to reshape their narratives into ones that truly reflect and support their authentic selves.

3

Who can benefit from therapy?

Therapy is beneficial for those ready to commit to meaningful change in their lives. It often involves delving into uncomfortable emotions, thoughts, and experiences—yet, it is precisely in these challenges that growth takes root, progress is visible, and lasting change occurs. Clients get the most out of therapy when they apply the insights and techniques learned within sessions to their everyday lives, embodying the principle of 'practice what you preach.' Therapy is versatile and can aid with a wide range of issues, from anxiety, stress, and addiction, to depression, relationship management, and more. It's an opportunity to deconstruct and rebuild aspects of your life in a supportive, structured environment.

What types of therapy do you offer?

Our therapists adapt to each client's unique situation, creating a collaborative relationship to foster confidence and equip them with strategies to achieve their personal goals. We tailor each session to the client's specific needs and level of comfort, utilizing a variety of therapeutic techniques. Our diverse array of therapy modalities includes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Family Systems Theory, the Gottman Method, among others. Our therapists, Kelly Chappius and Taylor Blunsen, are skilled in CBT, addressing the needs of teens and adults. Additionally, Taylor brings specialized expertise in managing addictive behaviors and trauma with young adults and teenagers.

4

How long does therapy last?

The duration of therapy varies based on the issues a client wishes to address and their commitment to applying what they learn in sessions to their life. Engaging with therapeutic practices between sessions typically leads to more substantial change. On average, clients may expect to be in therapy for about 3-6 months. Often, therapy is a cyclical process; clients may leave once they've made progress on certain issues and return later to work through new challenges or to refresh their coping strategies.

4

How much does therapy cost?

While we do not directly accept insurance, we can provide an itemized receipt for clients to submit to their insurance for potential reimbursement. Avoiding direct insurance involvement allows us the freedom to offer more personalized therapy, centered around your needs rather than insurance limitations. This approach also means more dedicated time for each client, as we're not allocating resources to insurance communications.

Session costs vary by therapist, reflecting their licensure, years of experience, and specialized training. Our therapy sessions are 50 minutes long and available Monday through Friday, from 10:15 AM to 8:15 PM. For established clients, we also offer 30-minute sessions as needed.

What should I expect during my first therapy session?

The cornerstone of effective therapy is the relationship between therapist and client. We strive to create a trusting, supportive, and non-judgmental space where you feel fully seen and heard. In your first session, you'll establish a connection with your therapist, sharing your story and therapeutic goals. Together, you'll explore the obstacles you're facing and celebrate your successes to form an actionable plan for moving forward. While you're not required to prepare specific topics for discussion, clients who actively apply session strategies to their daily lives often see quicker progress. We may suggest "homework" to reinforce these strategies. Remember, you are the expert on your life; our role is to provide insights and alternative perspectives to facilitate your journey of change. Completing intake paperwork in advance helps us prepare to meet your specific needs from the very first session.

Is therapy confidential?

What happens in therapy, stays in therapy, for the most part. Confidentiality is a fundamental part of the therapeutic process. For minor clients, we engage with parents or guardians on a general level and only share specifics if there is a risk of harm to the client or others. For adults, discussions within therapy are kept private unless a court order requires disclosure. If you wish for your therapist to coordinate with another professional, such as a psychiatrist, school counselor, or spouse, you can provide consent through a release of information, enabling your therapist to share pertinent details as needed.

How do I choose a therapist that is right for me?

Choosing the right therapist is a crucial step in your mental health journey and can be overwhelming. To support this decision, we offer a complimentary 15-minute consultation, allowing you to connect with a therapist before scheduling a full session. During this time, you can ask any questions you may have, assess how comfortable you feel with the therapist, and discuss briefly what you're seeking help for. To help you make an informed choice, our website features detailed profiles of each therapist, providing insight into their professional expertise and personal approach to therapy.
